A sobering peek into the future when #NaturalDisasters are wrecking communities and no one is paying attention and no one from #FEMA or other government agencies are coming to help, because they have been dismantled.
Latest reports say at least 20 died in severe storms in Missouri, Arkansas, Texas and other states overnight. Heavy property damage to homes, businesses, infrastructure. There are more tornado warnings today.
I sincerely hope that FEMA has enough remaining staff and resources to help these people.

CBS News: Federal funding cuts lead FEMA to cancel classes at National Fire Academy
"The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced that National Fire Academy courses were canceled amid a "process of evaluating agency programs and spending to ensure alignment with Administration priorities," according to a notice sent to instructors, students and fire departments. Instructors were told to cancel all future travel until further notice.
Firefighters, EMS providers and other first responders from across the country travel to the NFA's Maryland campus for the federally funded institution's free training programs."

Those changes represent a significant loss at an agency that was already struggling w/personnel shortages as it tried to help communities recover from catastrophic #storms & #wildfires in #NorthCarolina & #LosAngeles, among other missions.
Soon after his return to the WH, #Trump mused about formally disbanding #FEMA. The departures suggest that the agency is already being thinned out.
Over a dozen of the snr leaders at #FEMA, including those w/the most #experience in leading #disaster recovery, have either been fired or have resigned, thinning its management ranks weeks ahead of #hurricane season.
The departures in the snr ranks are IN ADDITION to job cuts & resignations of about 1k of the agency’s ~17k employees.
