We spent three hours working in the yard. I'm a bit bummed by the damage we got but others have it way worse so I'm going to move forward and just deal with it as best I can. Roland Klose<p>The state takeover of St. Louis’ police department, which is working its way through the Missouri Legislature, could prove a boon for journalists and City Hall. For journalists, it’ll be a return to the opaque and politicized system that yielded many entertaining stories (like the 1982 selection of Eugene Camp’s successor that I wrote about as a cub). Roland Klose<p>In 1950, when the population of St. Louis peaked at 857K, the Post-Dispatch launched its influential series, “Progress or decay?” </p><p>The newspaper did not pull punches when it described the condition of the city: “More than a third of the city of St. Louis is blotted by areas of blight and of progressively worsening slums.” </p><p>75 years later, the decay is just as bad.
