Sometimes if a bird is worth a boop (and let's face it, pretty much all birds are worth a boop) then it's also worth the effort in reaching them, however high up they have decided to perch.

Tomorrow I will be attending (and hopefully speaking at) a special city council meeting in my town to address the public’s concerns about the recent death (ahem, not accidental) of an unhoused neighbor, James Oakley, who was crushed to death by a backhoe in one of their encampment sweeps. I am bracing myself for the what-about-ism bullshit comments and arguments I will undoubtedly hear from some of the City’s residents. I don’t know what else to be said that everyone deserves to live under a roof. Period. Everyone. Yes everyone.
Wish me luck.

Sunny March mornings are great for #bird photos, especially when it comes to Grackles. I love studying all the different hues on them. There are subtypes with blue-green, purple and bronze tones in the feathers. The Blue Jays also love the sun, it makes all the intricate patterns their feathers have more visible, especially cool around the face.

Golden Fronted Woodpecker in Morning Light by Debra Martz
This was a first for me to capture an image of a Woodpecker using its tongue to retrieve food from the trunk of a tree. They have powerful chisel-like beaks & long, specialized tongues to help access food other birds can't.

Today's blog post was my response to Jon Young's What the Robin Knows, which focused on developing good listening habits, in the context of advice about how to listen to birds

Slushy swan. It's already hard to believe, but it was only five days ago that the lake ice began to break up in front of our house.

Lots of my Perpetual Journal entries lately seem to be of birds...here’s a Ladder-backed Woodpecker, found in deserts in the SW US. We observe them fairly regularly in our Tucson, AZ yard (we rarely see Red Crossbills though).
No parking.
