It shows two pics; on the left, titled "Existing: 6th Ave", shows a shitty mixing zone (shixing zone?) where the bike lane turns into sharrows and drivers merge into the bike lane.

On the right, titled "Proposed Configuration: 4th Ave, Brooklyn", shows a semi-protected intersection. The bike lane continues through the intersection, and a painted corner bulb forces drivers to make an almost 90deg right turn before crossing the bike lane. The corner bulb has a small (plastic) curb in it which can be driven over, so it's not exactly high-end design, but still better than mixing zones.

Adams may be saved from a potential prison sentence (for now), but at the expense of New York City. Here's Lyft providing a great statement of Lyft's values in #bikenyc: subsidizing congestion, while also increasing #bikeshare prices, and using #citibike infrastructure to promote car trips.

Note, too, that all of the bikes in the station are #ebikes, meaning that they require a per-minute user fee.

This is why there are so many left and right hooks (and countless near-misses) along Manhattan's unidirectional #bikelanes in #bikenyc.

Meanwhile in #KingstonNY, drivers are accustomed to turning right *at full speed* through red lights without stopping or scanning the crosswalks. Kingston needs to implement LPIs.

3. Like most of the great bike routes in Bogotá, it only attracts rich people because of the presence of cops carrying rifles. I know they are there for ME, but I can imagine a lot of people feel unwelcome.

Also, I disagree with his assessment of daily riding in Bogotá. It's better than he makes it sound. I find bike routes there much better than in NYC.

At today’s Council meeting (12/19), I introduced Intro. 1145, which is intended to slow down e-bikes. The legislation would require Citi Bike and others to install speedometers on their powered devices, and to have the technology limit new riders to 10 miles per hour at first. How can we ask people to follow the speed limit if they don’t know how fast they’re going?

I appeared on the Brian Lehrer Show on WNYC this past Monday (12/16) in a segment titled “Ideas for Regulating E-Bikes.” Listen at the link. Related, on the NY Daily News editorial page: NYC must curb the e-bikes: Regulations should be on the delivery apps (normally paywalled but here is a PDF)

“…A better way, as urged by Rodriguez and Councilwoman Gale Brewer, may be to target the commercial uses of e-bikes, where giant apps like Uber Eats, DoorDash, and Grubhub control the meal delivery market with 75,000 restaurant delivery workers, with about half them on e-bikes. It must also include Amazon and those conveying items other than food. Require the companies to track their contractors regarding speed and direction (and hopefully even illegal sidewalk riding) and hand that info to city regulators. The city already has mandates on delivery pay rates, so the data can be used to see if deliveristas are speeding or otherwise acting dangerously…”

It's exponential risk with faster speeds.

Vehicles traveling <20mph (i.e., ebikes) have 25% of the risk of vehicles traveling 30mph. For a lighter vehicle like an e-bike, this number is even less because the chance of getting (literally) run over is much much lower.

This whole curve is shifted upwards by ~45% in the USA because of our penchant for BIG cars with FLAT front ends

A college acquaintance is now a writer for the Wall Street Journal and participated in this article on the fastest ways to get to various major airports. Despite palpable disdain all too common in major publications, they conceded that e-bike was the fastest was to LaGuardia airport.
